Escort Terminology Guide: What Common Sexworker Terms Mean
If you’re new to booking a sex worker, the language used on websites and directories can sometimes feel confusing. The industry has developed its own shorthand, acronyms, and terms over time, and many of them aren’t obvious if you haven’t encountered them before.
This guide explains some of the most common escort and sex work terminology so you can feel more confident navigating websites, reading service descriptions, and making enquiries.
Every escort works differently, so definitions may vary slightly between providers. The explanations below are intended as a general guide to help you understand the language you might encounter – as well as my own two cents about a few things.
The Most Common Escort Terms Explained
These are some of the terms people most often encounter when exploring escort websites or booking companionship.
Incall
An incall appointment takes place at the escort’s location. The client travels to the escort’s private space at the agreed time. The escort is hosting.
Incall appointments are very common because the escort can control the environment, ensuring it is comfortable, discreet, and set up for relaxation.
Outcall
An outcall is when the escort travels to the client. This usually takes place at a hotel, apartment, or private residence. The client is hosting.
Outcalls often include a travel fee depending on distance and location.
Full Service
Full Service, or FSSW (Full Service Sex Worker) is the term used to imply that the sexwork provider will be willing to include penetrative sex in the booking.
I am a Full Service Sex Worker. Some sexworkers that are not Full-Service include kink providers, massage providers, strippers and porn actors.
GFE (Girlfriend Experience)
The Girlfriend Experience, often shortened to GFE, refers to a style of booking that emphasises warmth, affection, and emotional connection.
Rather than focusing purely on sexual activity, GFE-style experiences often include things like conversation, cuddling, kissing, relaxed chemistry, and a more natural feeling dynamic.
Many people seek this style of experience because they want intimacy and genuine connection as part of their time together.
PSE (Porn Star Experience)
The Porn Star Experience, or PSE, generally refers to a style of booking that focuses more heavily on explicit sexual energy and fantasy-driven encounters.
Unlike more affectionate or connection-focused experiences, PSE usually places a stronger emphasis on sexual intensity and visual excitement. However, it’s important to understand that PSE means different things to different providers, and there is no universal definition.
Because of this, the best way to understand what a provider means by PSE is to read their website carefully. I also explore my personal interpretation of PSE in more detail on my PSE page.
Screening
Screening is the process escorts use to verify new clients before meeting.
This can involve providing basic information such as a phone number, LinkedIn profile, references from other escorts, or workplace details. Screening helps ensure safety and professionalism for everyone involved.
Most independent escorts require some form of screening before confirming a booking.
My screening process involves taking your photo ID, such as Driver Licence, so I can verify your legal name and also check that you are legally of age. I then check your details with various industry resources prior to accepting your booking.
Deposit
A deposit is a small payment made in advance to confirm a booking.
Deposits help protect the escort’s time and reduce cancellations or no-shows. Once a deposit is received, the appointment is usually considered secured. Deposits are generally non-refundable, though sometimes a provider will offer to move some or all of your deposit to another day if you reschedule within a short timeframe.
Session
A session refers to the time you spend together during a booking.
Sessions are booked by length of time, not by a list of guaranteed activities. This is an important distinction, as the experience itself can evolve naturally within the time you have together.
Companion
The term companion is often used interchangeably with escort and sexworker. It emphasises the social and relational aspect of the work.
Companion bookings may include conversation, dates, travel, shared experiences, or intimate time together.
Tour
When an escort tours, they travel to another city for a limited time to meet clients there.
Tours are usually announced in advance so clients in that location can book appointments during the visit. A tour usually involves the provider arranging an incall space at the destination.
I do not generally offer tours as they are not a financially viable practice for me and do not tend to attract good quality clientele. I do offer FMTY though!
FMTY
Fly-Me-To-You (FMTY) is the term used when you arrange for an escort from another location to come visit you at your location. For instance, I am based in Melbourne, but if you are in Sydney, you can still book a session with me. I will fly to Sydney to spend time with you. I offer FMTY Australia-wide and internationally. You can read more about it on my FMTY Page.
